Yeast and Vulvodynia
As we have suspected for years, research now suggests that some women develop an allergic type reaction to even small levels of Candida or other yeast organisms present in the genital area. The chronic inflammatory condition can specifically affect the minor vestibular glands that surround the vaginal opening and cause a form of vulvodynia (pain in the female genital area associated with touch). So we have more research support for one of many treatment options for vaginal pain, pain with sex and what is currently known as LPV (localized provoked vulvodynia).
Testing and treatment are available in our Gyn Specialty Clinic at Swor Women’s Care. We also have research studies currently enrolling patients, at the adjacent Physician Care Clinical Research Center, for a novel drug treatment for recurrent yeast infection, a magnet therapy device for painful sex and a non-drug device to deactivate yeast developed by a female gynecologist.
